Abstract

Electronic money is a digital asset with economic value and can be used for transactions. In customary inheritance law, inheritable assets are traditionally physical. However, with technological advancements, new digital assets, such as electronic money, have emerged. This raises new issues regarding the recognition of inheritance of electronic money in customary inheritance law. The acknowledgment of digital currency becomes crucial to be examined based on the challenges associated with acknowledging the inheritance of electronic money in customary inheritance law. The era of digitization indicates that the development of electronic money can be categorized as inheritable property. Electronic money holds economic value and can be used to meet living expenses; therefore, it is important to delve into its legal aspects to explore its regulations. The need to revisit the definition of inheritance assets in customary law to encompass digital aspects so that the regulations can become clear is evident.
